Evidence Based Choice of Statistical Methods in Clinical Research

Key person: Werner Vach

In many areas, especially those emerged during the last decade, clinicians are today confronted with a variety of statistical methods they can choose from. Even experienced statisticians may be unable to identify the most appropriate one, as publications on new methods typically do not include a critical appraisal. It often takes two decades until the true advantages and disadvantages of a new method are fully explored. We want to promote the rapid evaluation of new statistical methods and the systematic comparison of statistical methods in order to allow and ensure an evidence based choice of statistical methods in clinical research. We want to contribute by providing software for systematic evaluations and comparisons and by good examples of systematic comparisons.
